hI Kalyanee, Very interesting write on comfort foods. It is funny right, how within thesame country, one is so unaware of certain names and uses. I mean Jowar, bhakri, never heard of them. Would like more detailed recipes in future

hey Kalyanee
wow, that was a lip smacking collection you have there:d was delighted to read about so many Maharashtrian dishes in one place.
Roti ladoo are my favourites in the list. its just such a simple recipe! used to have it almost everyday when i was in school. wil def ask aai to make some soon, been ages since ive had em:D

wada pav is to Maharashtra, what pizza is to Italy. wada pav is synonymous with the Marathi culture:D n quite filling at the same time too:D Shree Krishna Vada pav @ Dada & Ladoo Samrat @ Lalbaug are my favourite joints for wada:D

Sabudana Khichadi just remind me of the wonderful Shrawan time. i just love the atmosphere of that period and with the arrival of Shrawan the juggernaut of festival commences!

Pithla reminds me of my native place. after a really good days play, we'd return home to have the wonderful pitla + bhakri or Pitla + khara maasa:D it was pure bliss!! such simple ingredients and how they work wonders with your palate!

Jaggery shira sounds quite cool. will try it out sometime.

from jaggery i rem one dish. more of a snack one can say. as kids we used to gorge on it.
take one half of a Dried coconut, fill it with jaggey and then cut the coconut into smaller pieces. altho the jaggery may seem excessive, but once we bite into the coconut, the mixture of the coconut milk and liquid jaggery is mind blowing!

was wonderful goin thru the post.

take care
ciao

Hello Mrs Muffet
do i know u by another pen name? Got dis feeling of familiarity....
anyhow, welcome!
Cilantro is kothimbir or coriander leaves. Yeah, the rava cake is delicious.....one can put egg in it but i prefer the dairy ingredients instead.
Thanks for ur interest!
